Gulfside Hospice’s 10th Annual Hearts for Hospice Raises $45,000
More than 200 people walked or ran in memory or honor of loved ones at the 10th Annual Hearts for Hos- pice 5K at Rasmussen College in Land O’ Lakes on Nov. 6. Thanks to sponsorship, fundraising and registrations, $45,000 was donated to Gulfside Hospice from the event.
“This year’s Hearts for Hospice 5K was so very special to us as it is the tenth year we have held our signature fundraising event,” said Linda Ward, president and CEO of Gulfside Hospice. “Families have been choosing this event as a way to celebrate the lives of their loved ones for the last decade, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of support that Gulfside receives from the community every year.”
The Anclote High School JROTC held the presentation of colors to start the run and walk, followed by a special memorial ceremony to remember and celebrate loved ones.Soon after, the runners were off with the walkers following behind them on the 5K course.
Awards were presented to the highest fundraising individuals and teams, as well as to the fastest runners in the 5K Run. Awards were presented to teams: 1st Place Fundraising Team– Ladies Only – $10,000; 2nd Place Fundraising Team – Natalie’s Hope –$3,440; and 3rd Place Fundraising Team – Ethel’s Energizers – $2,850.
Individual awards: 1st Place Fundraising Individual – Lynn Tharp; 2nd Place Fundraising Individual – Frank McCollister; 3rd Place Fundraising Individual – Barbara Russell & Cindy Walker; Most Passionate Heart Award– Frank McCollister; Most Team Spirit Award – Ethel’s Energizers; Fastest Runners – Male Overall Winner – Jaxon Alonso with a time of 22:33.7 and Female Overall Winner – Carly Ray with a time of 22:10.2.
All proceeds from the Hearts for Hospice 5K will support patients and their families facing chronic and life- limiting illnesses in Pasco County, as well as support programs at Gulfside’s Centers for Hospice Care and Bereavement Centers.
The annual event started as the Hike for Hospice in 2007 and has since raised more than$445,000 for Gulfside Hospice. Hearts for Hospice 5K was presented by Bouchard Insurance.
